Where has the time gone??
I received a lovely email from a PCJ supporter out of New York this weekend and realized that I hadnt updated this page in forever. A lot..I mean a whole lot has gone on since I posted about the three awards we've won. What I should have mentioned way back last year was that I was able to get Baker and Taylor as a distributor for PCJ. That was beyond important. With a distributor, more companies would be willing to carry my book, as they could now order directly from someone that they probably already did business with. After getting a distributor the holiday season hit and orders picked up. Holiday season in a house of 3 kids is busy enough. Can you imagine adding a book to that? Well all that craziness has paid off because we are now carried by Walmart online and Barnes and Noble (across the entire country and online). Can you believe it???? I also have (not so secretly if you pay attention to any of the social media sites that I have) been working on a PCJ doll. To me it just seemed like the next logical step for the brand to embark on. That process has literally taken forever!! The doll had to be tweaked and tweaked and tweaked some more, until finally we have what you see. Then the boxes had to be designed. And just when I thought I was done, the factory closed down due to the Chinese New Year for almost a month..wtf. But finally we are close to the finish line and the dolls should hopefully arrive before the summer. Another thing that should arrive before/by the summer is the new book!! Sooooooo excited. Everyone who has the first book always asks when the next one is coming. And so not to disappoint I can now say by June. We are in the process of illustrating it and it looks amazing. I've also been doing a few readings for the Cleveland Public library that have been eye opening and wonderful. Oh and did I mention baby number four should also be making a appearance any day now..tee hee. Yea life is good..:)
We are 3 awards in!
I am so happy that we have now won our third award! What an honor to be able to call my book award winning!! In addition we finally were picked up by our local B&N..I know you're like what's taking so long. When you are not a celebrity and/or connected to the ceos at major retailers getting your book (or any product for that matter) picked up by a national retailer is the worst. It's a lot of calling, emailing, mailing, visiting with very little response. Yet you have to keep on trying no matter what. I know that we have a great product so I just have to be patient and do my part, which for me isnt always easy. They say patience is a virtue and wellllll lol.
It's been a long time!!
I know it's been forever since I updated this part of my blog.. And while it may seem that not alot is going on with the book, that actually couldnt be farther from the truth. There's a ton happening, just most of it isn't blog worthy. When you finally publish a book, the real work actually starts. That of promoting (the most important part) and selling (even more important). And most of it is far from glamourous! I've been pretty much sending review copies to every blogger and book reviewer out there to get reviews posted on the net. This is extremely important because reviews drive the sales of books. That isn't a difficult concept to grasp, if you figure books have very little other way of being promoted, save for word of mouth. And when I'm not mailing out those copies, I am mailing actual orders (the best part)! So if I only did those two things, in addition to being a mother and my other work I would be busy enough! But of course that's not all, lol. I have much bigger plans for this character and I'm spending time trying to facilitate that happening (more to come on that later!!). I also have been entering book awards (another necessity), planning readings/meet and greets, anddddd trying to finish up the fourth book. Phew!!! Anyhoo I am uber pleased to annouce that today I found out we won our first award, thanks to Mom's Choice! I am so honored and excited to be a part of the list of winners. And I only hope that this is the first of many!!!
It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
I got to read my book aloud to my middle daughter's class. How amazing!!! They really seemed to enjoy it, even the boys!! When I was finished, they not only asked great questions, but a few of them came up to me afterwards and told me about their own book writing...The Principal even told me that he planned to have all of the lower elementary children read it...sigh...I cant tell you guys how happy I am right now!
My book arrived today and I actually felt myself tearing up when I saw it! Now that might have something to do with my horrible allergies lol, but I believe I was a little overwhelmed with emotion too. I've waited two years for this to happen and now that the book is finally here, it's almost surreal! It looks great! As a self publisher the most important thing is quality. I am proud to self publish but I don't want you to be able to "tell" that I did.
We are officially on preorder on Amazon!!!! So excited!! Purchase your book here!
Moving Full Steam Ahead!
So much has been going on and it's all very exciting stuff! First and foremost I got my proofs and absolutely loved them!! I did have one tweak to the back cover and dust jacket that ended up costing me a small fortune...Note to self, pay attention to things one doesnt like prior to getting to the print process, smh. I also made the final tweaks to the website..www.princesscupcakejones.com, which is sooo adorable I could die..though not literally lol. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I owe a lot of it to my illustrator, who is also my website designer, Michael. Great job Mike!! I signed up for Amazon and now...dun dun dun..You can buy the book on PREORDER!! I am beyondddddd excited at this point. And finally I started working on the next phase of Princess Cupcake Jones, which I'll keep to myself for now, but honestly can't wait to share in the future. Really really great things are happening and to see this dream become a reality is AMAZING!
And we did it! The book has officially gone to press! I still cant believe it... honestly it feels surreal. I don't think I will fully grasp it until I have a actual copy of the book in my hands. I should hopefully receive my proofs next week. Sooooo excited!!!
And We Missed It.....
So my deadline to head to press came and went, smh. Well that's how it goes when you have a team of people that ea have ideas and suggestions. I can say that looks great, we're ready, but if someone on my team doesn't agree, well...Let's just say I would be foolish not to pay attention to their suggestions. They've done this more times than I have, so their expertise is everything.
Ok so I was having a vain moment and was not sure how I felt about my author picture anymore. Especially since I had no idea how often we would be using it!!! Its on everything! Press releases, jacket covers, the website, smh. I literally crashed my children's portrait studio session and had the photographer snap a picture of me (no real makeup or anything on). I even borrowed my middle daughter's top..yep that tank top actually belongs to my 8 year old, lol. Oh well, that picture and I are stuck with each other now. It's too late to think about getting another one. I am ready to head to the printer, and I can't let a little vanity get in the way.
Belle Publishing LLC
It's official!! I have a publishing company!!! Now don't start sending me your manuscripts just yet lol. I established my own publishing company specifically to put out my own work, sorry!! Atleast for the time being anyway. I like to think of it as the equivalent of a Indie artist starting their own record label. It just makes sense. Since I plan to self publish anyway, why not create a company around it. Works for me!!
